A glimpse inside my studio

I have always been a firm believer that everyone needs their own special space.  A place to escape into (besides the bathroom) for a few minutes or a few hours of precious one-on-one time.

It doesn’t have to be a big or a fancy space; it doesn’t even have to be a space with four walls, but a door to shut behind you is definitely a bonus. A dedicated space to call your own.

Over the years, I have made pottery on a board sitting on the floor, turned my storage/hot water tank closet into a studio ( it is amazing what some paint and pretty fabric can do), and I have had a desk stuffed between the furnace and the washing machine in the basement. All served their intended purpose and all were wonderfully my own.

There is a hot water tank behind that lovely fabric.

Today I am blessed with an actual studio (two if you want to get technical) and I have a reading/journaling room as well.

As our five daughters slowly began to move out and create their own homes, I snagged the best two rooms. My husband has his own dungeon as well, just in case you were wondering.

I now have windows, music, carpet, four walls and a door. I have tons of room to store all my art supplies and creations and a place to make a mess, and not clean it up if I choose. But you know what I love the most?… I love that I am surrounded by all the things that inspire my creative imagination. Every found object, every piece of art, every picture and dust collector has a story. A story that I gave it or created with it. If things and a place – instead of people -could make up your family then this would be my family. A very special family just for me.

Have you made yourself that special place? I hope so!
